Parenting Advice from 1933

“Parental love is, ideally, the nearest approach to true altruism we know in human relationship. It is not demanding or possessive. Its satisfaction should be not in the pleasure of receiving love, respect, and gratitude, but in happiness derived through the well-being of another. This is the only sound basis for constructive parenthood and it should be sought no less earnestly in foster homes than in normal family groups.”
